Dr Meagan Cox
I wanted to become a therapist simply to help people make their lives better. I have a huge passion for helping our first responders, veterans, military members, and their families, as well as those dealing with chronic illness and their caregivers. Those moments where I can support someone overcome whatever their faced with, whether that is marriage or relationship challenges, trauma, self-confidence, or even helping with VA claims are so incredibly awesome.
My family and I are foster parents for a local animal rescue helping to care for abandoned or neglected puppies. Over the last two years, we've helped care for and find new homes for nearly 40 puppies and two kittens!
My husband is Active Duty (AD) USAF and has been in for 17 years. We have been married 13 years and we have a 9 and a 10 year old. Eight years ago I became incredibly ill. Over the course of 24 hours I became neck down paralyzed on Oahu without any family or close friends nearby. Our kids were 2 and 3 at the time. I spent the next 2 years hospitalized. I had to relearn everything from walking to brushing my own hair. Today, I am doing more than anyone thought I'd be able to accomplish. At that time, I never imagined I’d have a job I love in a the sort of practice I thought I'd have to create myself. Marriage is hard work. It's not easy to keep a marriage solid in the best of circumstances. Adding the military, children, a chronic illness, and a spouse who is now a caregiver is something there's no possible training for. It has not been an easy road but my husband and I have fought hard to stay together which puts me in the position of knowing first hand what this small percentage of military couples experience.
